Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
