The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
