The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
