The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
