The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
