The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
