The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
