The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
