The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 it will be a hard day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
