A numerous company from among the first, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
