The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
