The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
