The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
