The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
