The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
