The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
