The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
