Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 A warning unto humankind 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 who will be in Paradise 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
