No, by the moon! 32 by the retreating night, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning to mortals, 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 About the guilty: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
