Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning to mankind, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 in Gardens they will question 40 about the guilty ones: 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
