Nay, by the Moon 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 it is a warning to man, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
