Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to mortal man 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 In Gardens they will question 40 concerning the sinners, 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 as if they were startled asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
