The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
