The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
