The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 It will be a place of return 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a fitting requital, 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
