The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
