The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
