The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
