The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they differ? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
