The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
