a large throng from the ancients, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
