The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
