The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
