The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great news - 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
