The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER those [stars] that rise only to set, 1 by the angels who gently release the souls of the believers, 2 And by those who float in space, 3 And then they speed with foremost speed. 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 Followed by the second blast, 7 Hearts on that day shall palpitate, 8 and their eyes shall be humbled. 9 [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state 10 Even if we should be decayed bones? 11 [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" 12 It will only be a single blast, 13 And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. 14 Has not there come to you the story of Musa? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 "Go unto Pharaoh - for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of what is right 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 but he denied it as false and disobeyed, 21 and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, 22 Then he gathered his people and cried aloud, 23 Then he said: I am your lord, the most high. 24 Thereupon Allah seized him for the chastisement of the World to Come as well as of the present. 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
