He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
