He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
