He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble, pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
