He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
