He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and fodder 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
