He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive and palm trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
