He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he feareth 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
