He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
