He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
