He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
