He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 olives, dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
