The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
