He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
