He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
