He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
